Self-drive jet boats & JetCars — no captain · Miami
Miami Jet Boat Rentals
A JetCar is a supercar-styled jet boat you drive yourself across Biscayne Bay — Ferrari- and Rolls-Royce-inspired lines, a supercharged Yamaha jet engine rated 250 HP on the two-seat model, and no captain. Most seat 2 passengers. Jet propulsion means no exposed propeller, so it turns on a dime and is safe around swimmers. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 needs a Florida Boating Safety Education ID card.

Everything you're wondering
What is a JetCar?+
A JetCar is a supercar-styled jet boat — a personal watercraft with the bodywork of an exotic car (Ferrari, Rolls-Royce), bucket seats and a steering wheel, powered by a Yamaha jet engine. It's water-only, not road-legal, and you drive it yourself.
Do I need a license to drive a jet boat in Miami?+
Florida doesn't issue a boating license, but anyone born on or after Jan 1, 1988 must carry a Boating Safety Education ID card (a short course). Rental companies verify it, many offer a quick on-site option, and everyone gets a dock orientation.
How many people can ride a JetCar?+
Most JetCars seat up to 2 riders; some larger models carry more. Tell us your group size and we'll match you to the right craft or multiple units.
Is it hard to drive?+
No. Jet drive is intuitive — throttle and a steering wheel, no exposed propeller — and every rental begins with a hands-on orientation before you leave the dock. You do not need prior boating experience.

The full jet boat rental guide+
A jet boat is powered by a jet drive instead of a propeller: an impeller pumps water in and fires it out through a steerable nozzle, so there is no exposed prop under the hull. That is what makes a jet boat so much fun to drive yourself — it accelerates hard, turns tight, sits in shallow water, and is far safer to run near swimmers and the sandbar than a propeller boat. A JetCar takes that jet-boat platform and wraps it in the bodywork of an exotic car.
That is the whole point of a JetCar: it turns heads everywhere it goes. The lines are inspired by icons like Ferrari and Rolls-Royce, with a low, aggressive profile, bucket seats, a steering wheel and a real dash — so it looks and feels like a supercar, except it runs on water. Pull up to the sandbar in one and you are the highlight of the bay; it is a statement and an experience more than a boat, which is exactly why they are a favorite for birthdays, bachelorette days, proposals and content shoots.
Under the hood it is serious, not a toy. These JetCars run a supercharged 1.8-litre Yamaha marine engine — rated 250 HP on the two-seat model and 360 HP on the larger four-seat version — delivering a genuinely exciting but smooth ride, and because it is jet-driven you get that instant, responsive push. You drive it yourself — there is no captain — but you do not need experience: every rental starts with a dock orientation on the controls, the throttle, and the no-wake zones before you head out.
There are real rules, because you are the operator. Under Florida law, anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 must have completed an approved boating-safety course and carry a Boating Safety Education ID card — reputable companies verify this at check-in, and many offer a short on-site option. A valid photo ID, a signed rental agreement and a refundable security deposit are standard. From the Biscayne Bay launch points you can cruise the sandbar, the island mansions and the downtown skyline, all inside the protected bay, which is forgiving for a self-driver. Morning sessions tend to be the calmest, and companies may reschedule for small-craft advisories.
To book, pick your date and how many are riding, choose your session length, and tell us your experience level so we match you to the right craft and orientation. Bring your boater card if you have one — and get ready to be the most-photographed thing on the water.
